2010

Or The Great Gatsby

After Dark

Last night I was particularly not tired so I documented my night. Firstly I had some cereals around midnight as I was pretty hungry, I tried my best to look like I was really enjoying the honey nut shredded wheat but I think I just look like a massive creep, ha.

After eating I started reading Post Office

I got changed into some pyjamas even though I was still wide awake and wrapped up some of my friends birthday gifts ready to post when I next go to town.

I figured the 25th of January at 2am was a good enough time to put up this years calendar. I found this fantastic highland cows calendar in the Edinburgh castle gift shop when Carly, Owen, Dan and I went to visit Andy and La at the Edinburgh festival.

After the calendar was straight I proceeded to get my 6th badge on Pokémon, yeah! Along the way I encountered and successfully caught this fierce Doduo.

Pokémoned out, I was feeling altruistic so I continued sewing a gift for a friend

By this time it was about 4 and I got some cravings for dominos pizza after seeing the dominos vouchers on my desk :(:(

I got over it by sorting my memories box out. It contains a bunch of sentimental stuff, good birthday cards, some things from when I was hit by a car, photos, letters or mix cds from people, gig tickets etc... But it needed sorting out as the box is over flowing and some of the stuff doesn't need to be there any more.

Trip down memory lane complete and I still wasn't tired. I was pretty happy Iorek was staying up with me though :)

I read some more and then Iorek and I looked at my Cornwall map and decided moving to St Ives was the best idea in the whole world ever

I got into bed as I was feeling pretty tired by now, listened to some Bon Iver and some other sleepy music and eventually around 5 I got some sleep

I then woke up at the horrifically early time of 8am, sob, hopefully tonight I can sleep a bit better...

If only there were more things like this

This phonebox in Somerset was brought for £1 and turned into a tiny library, amazing! This makes me want to move to Somerset quite a lot, to a sea-side town though, obvs. Love it. It makes me well happy that people still love libraries, yay!

I can't get no sleep

INSOMNIA!

Arrrrgh, I would say I'm averaging about 3 hours sleep per night, which wouldn't be so bad if it was a solid 3 hours but it's all interrupted and not satisfying. When someone else is there I can sleep a lot better, but at the moment that is not an option :(

With all my extra hours of wakefulness I mostly try and force myself to sleep but the rest of the time I play on Zoo Tycoon on my DS and make sure all my animals are doing ok. Or I read Heart of Darkness or The Robber Bride. Sometimes I'll draw nice things. A lot of the time I listen to my ipod, sometimes on it's own, sometimes when I'm doing any of the above. I've also taken to re-organising my wardrobe. The main problem is that you can't do anything noisy otherwise you'll wake other people up, so annoyingly, using the sewing machine is out of the question, as is t.v or films unless you watch them super quietly.

During the day I get more and more zombie like and fall asleep for ten minute naps at inappropriate times and try my best to not look tired and not fall asleep when people are talking to me.

This weekend, when I haven't been feeling super tired, I played in the snow, found a snow igloo, played worms for 5 hours solidly with Carly and some of her brothers friends, drove to Bristol with Ju to see Owen's mega amazing band play, jaws of a giant, danced to Bugsy Malone at Thekla, saw The Road at the Watershed, and re-found my love for bountys/bounties?

Lunar Industries

Loved it, but then it's hard to go wrong when Clint's on board, the soundtrack is beautiful.

Come dine with me

Clare and I decided what we would cook if we were on Come Dine With Me.

CLARE (her words, not mine)
Clares night is set in the run up to Christmas on a snowy day.
Clare's menu:
Starter
Champagne, pretzels and peanuts to welcome the guests followed by a Winter Vegetable soup with home made bread rolls
Main
Quorn mince cottage pie
Desert
Bread and Butter pudding followed by baileys and after eights
Drinks wine and water on the table with a desert wine to be drank with desert.
Entertainment live choir, singing Christmas carols.

LAURA
My night would be a garden party in the summer, I would decorate my garden nicely with fairy lights and candles and things, beautiful.
My menu:
Starter

Olives, pistachio nuts, houmous and pitta bread with champagne to welcome the guests followed by a traditional Gazpacho
Main
Mediterranean vegetables and halloumi skewers on the BBQ with a selection of cous cous, bean and rice salads
Desert
Home made raspberry and lemon sorbets served with fresh fruit and a fruit coulis
Drinks White wine sangria and a bottle of red and white wine on the table at all times.
Entertainment A mix cd with bands like Rodrigo y Gabriela, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, David Bowie, The Pixies, Sufjan Stevens, Modest Mouse, Devendra Banhart, maybe some Fleet Foxes and Ennio Morricone etc etc... When everyone was drunk we could put on some Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Kelly Clarkson and have a massive dance.

I think I may have put a little bit too much thought into this hypothetical dinner party, I really want this to happen now.

Save Ferris

I just finished the end of my cheesecake and watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off and now I'm a bit in love with Ferris all over again. Although, in my youth I don't remember having a problem with his teeth, I guess my teeth thing has gotten stranger as I've gotten older. If I'm ever sad I'll just fast forward to the float scene as I don't think anyone could watch it and not be happy :D

I would like Ferris' cardigan waistcoat please and for men everywhere to embrace this hair style.

Japan

Return flights to Tokyo for 10 days flying with virgin are £607.60 I am feeling pretty tempted to spend all my savings and just go. I'm so sick of being in Malvern.

Although I didn't mean it to be, this photo of Scarlett is quite telling of my mood of late, I don't exactly know what this mood is, but it's kind of reflective and not exactly sad but feeling a bit lost or small maybe?

I want you back (back for good)

I know it's awful and materialistic, but I really really miss my leather jacket :(
