Annually my family and I place bets on who will win best director, best film, best actor and best actress. Normally Hel and I attempt to stay up and watch it but inevitably fail at some stupidly early time and end up watching the highlights with everyone else the next day.
The nominations this year are:
Best Director:
James Cameron, Avatar
Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker
Quentin Tarantino, Inglourious Basterds
Lee Daniels, Precious
Jason Reitman, Up in the Air
My Prediction: Kathryn Bigelow
Who I want to win: Kathryn Bigelow
Best Picture:
Avatar
The Blind Side
District 9
An Education
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious
A Serious Man
Up
Up in the Air
My Prediction: Avatar
Who I want to win: Avatar. Yes, even with the god awful script I think this is a pretty weak category this year.
Best Actor in a Leading Role:
Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
George Clooney, Up in the Air
Colin Firth, A Single Man
Morgan Freeman, Invictus
Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker
My Prediction: Jeff Bridges
Who I want to win: Colin Firth. I really want Colin Firth to win, I didn't rate him as an actor at all until I saw A Single Man and now I've completely changed my opinion of him. I also really hope George Clooney or Morgan Freeman don't win, that would upset me :(
Best Actress in a Leading Role:
Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side
Helen Mirren, The Last Station
Carey Mulligan, An Education
Gabourey Sidibe, Precious
Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia
My Prediction: Meryl Streep
Who I want to win: Carey Mulligan.
Additionally, I really want Christoph Waltz to win Best Supporting Actor for Inglourious Basterds. Up for Best Animated, and also Alexandre Desplat to win Best Original Score for Fantastic Mr. Fox.
